The United States Women's National Team is set to take on Brazil for the gold this weekend, and the French Men's Olympic Team is set to take on the Spanish team for the gold, as well. France is looking to win their first gold medal in the sport since 1984. The USWNT is looking to win the gold for the first time since 2012.
France has been able to overcome worthy opponents in Argentina and Egypt to reach the final. They have one more huge challenge to overcome and they win the gold. On the bright side, France is guaranteed a medal regardless, but France is eager to win the gold. Spain has been impressive, as well, and France knows that there's no room for error in the final. France came from behind to beat Egypt 3-1 in the semis, but they cannot afford to waste scoring opportunities in this one.
The USWNT is looking very strong. After a failed and embarrassing run in the Women's World Cup last year, they're determined to achieve redemption by winning Olympic Gold. In the knockouts, the USWNT brilliantly eliminated Japan and Germany. Taking on Brazil is the challenge the USWNT would only desire.
The French Olympic Football Team is being led by French Football legend Thierry Henry. If Henry can lead the team to the gold this weekend, that'll be a major accolade as a manager that only adds to his legacy. In addition, it'll open managerial opportunities elsewhere. Henry has been linked with the managerial position with the US Men's Team, but it doesn't look like it's happening. In Henry's case, it's one step at a time. Henry is doing good so far leading the French Olympic Team and they have one more objective to achieve to win the gold.
