The second annual SEC-ACC Challenge is set to begin on Tuesday, Dec.3 through Thursday, Dec. 5. The challenge puts two of the premier conferences in college basketball against each other during this three-night period. There will be 32 games in total played with 16 on the men's side and 16 on the women's side. Every team in the SEC 16-team league will face one ACC opponent and 16 teams of the 18-team league from the ACC will face one SEC opponent with conference realignment setting in.
Last year was the first time of this event. There only 28 games in total played. Both sides, the men and women, ended in 7-7 ties. On the men's side, the SEC had 4-2 lead before the ACC took a 6-4 lead then a 7-5 lead before the SEC won the final two games. Same thing with ladies except, the ACC took a commanding 6-1 in the first seven game and then a 7-4 lead with three to go before the SEC dominated those for the 7-7 tied.
Now, it's the second year of the SEC-ACC Challenge. This year is filled with a lot of ranked teams, 11 ranked teams on the men's side and 11 on the women's side. Despite having 22 ranked teams for this challenge, there are only six ranked vs. ranked matchups. There only two ranked vs. ranked matchups for the men and four for the women. Nine wins is the goal for one these premier conferences to claim victory and bragging rights
The men's challenge is headlined by 10. Alabama going to Chapel Hill to 20. North Carolina and 2. Auburn going to Cameron Indoor to face 9. Duke. Both those games will be played on Wednesday Dec.4 on ESPN. Tuesday night will feature 10 games and Wednesday night will have six games.
