Angel Reese, Done for the Season

By Darnell Sallins

Sad day for the WNBA, Chicago Sky, and more importantly Angel Reese. The Chi-Town Barbie received word that her sensational rookie season was over with a wrist injury. Reese was listed as questionable on the Chicago Sky's injury report as the Sky prepare for the Dallas Wings on Sunday. However, the Sky posted on social media that Reese did suffer a season-ending wrist injury.

A devasting blow to the Sky as they are fighting to make the WNBA Playoffs with six games left to play. The Sky currently holds the eighth and final playoff spot ahead of the Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics, and Dallas Wings.

As mentioned earlier, the Sky and Wings play on Sunday in Chicago in which could be an elimination game if the Sky beat the Wings.

Unfortunately, the Sky will have to make the playoffs without their most productive player this season.

Reese took to social media after news broke:

"What a year. I never would imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol. Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed.........I'm filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next."

Angel Reese will finish her rookie season with13.6 points per game and 13.1 rebounds per game. Her 13.1 rebounds lead the WNBA this season. She has set milestones for

  • Most consecutive double-doubles by any player with 15

  • 1st rookie with a double-double in an All-Star game

  • 13.1 RPG is the most ever averaged in the WNBA

  • 1st player with 3 consecutive 20+ rebound games

  • 1st Sky player to begin career with three straight double-digit scoring games

  • 1st rookie in Sky history with 20 or more points and 15 or more rebounds in a game

  • Longest streak for 10+ rebounds games with 23

  • Passed Tina Charles for most rebounds by a rookie in WNBA history with 446
