Cam Newton signs with New England Means

By Darnell Sallins

Coming off foot and shoulder surgeries, Cam Newton finally has a home after 3 months. Newton is going to Foxborough to play for the New England Patriots.

There was always talked about Cam going to New England after the Carolina Panthers did an organization change but it was just rumors at the time. Part of that change was releasing Cam Newton back on March 24, ending a nine-year run as the Panthers' franchise quarterback.

Now Cam Newton heads to Foxborough in an attempt to replace another franchise and arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history in Tom Brady. Remember that Brady leave New England after 2 decades in New England, winning six Super Bowls to become the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The last time the Patriots went a full season without Brady was back in 2008 when Matt Cassel took over after Brady suffered a season-ending knee injury. That season the Patriots went 11-5 and missed the playoffs. Cam Newton goes into a quarterback with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer who all will be competing for the starting job in New England.

How will this work out?

Bill Belichick never the kind of talent at the quarterback that Cam Newton can bring if healthy. Closest to in the talent of Cam Newton for Belichick is Jacoby Brissett and Brissett is not as gifted as Newton. The interesting thing here is to how the head man in Belichick along with offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels approach Cam Newton about the offense.

McDaniels has some experience with dual-threat QBs, mainly Tim Tebow in Denver. Will Belichick allow McDaniels dust-off that Broncos playbook that he used for Tebow. If the Patriots do change the offense to suit Cam Newton's abilities then the NFL could be in trouble.

BUT, the question that will remain until Cam shows it, is that which Cam Newton will New England get? Is it the Cam who was injury prone and can't finish a season? OR Is it Superman Cam Newton who won a league MVP and led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50?

Depending the answers to the questions, the New England Empire could crumble before our eyes. At the same time, the Patriots Empire could continue to reign supreme as Cam Newton is Cam Newton again.

Training camp remains to set as schedule for July 28 and New England kicks off their 2020 season on September 13 at home against Miami.

Let's see Cam Newton and the New England Patriots work in 2020
