Claudio Castagnoli Is The New Ring of Honor World Champion!
By Alex Al-Kazzaz
The moment many professional wrestling fans have truly been waiting for. Specifically, the strong and loyal diehard fans of Claudio Castagnoli formerly known as Cesaro during his time with World Wrestling Entertainment. Castagnoli arrived at All Elite Wrestling last month at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. And now, he is finally a WORLD CHAMPION!
Castagnoli defeated Jonathan Gresham to win the ROH title for the first time. The standing ovation he got after the match was extraordinary because again, fans have been waiting for a very long time for Castagnoli to be a world champion. And now it has finally happened. Interestingly enough, Castagnoli's title win happens in his first ROH match in over TEN years!
Castagnoli's previous stint with ROH was from 2005 to 2011. He was a two-time ROH World Tag Team Champion alongside Chris Hero. However, from 2007 to about 2009, Castagnoli was in the ROH world title picture, unsuccessfully challenging both then champions Takeshi Morishima and Nigel McGuinness respectively.
Although Castagnoli sadly never received a main event push during his time in WWE, fans were behind him for much of his run. Fans have repeatedly praised Castagnoli's unique wrestling and athletic ability and felt he was more than deserving of receiving a main event title run. Believe it or not, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter named Castagnoli as the MOST UNDERRATED WRESTLER in the world from 2013 to 2016! Despite WWE's continued underutilization of Castagnoli, the Cesaro Section will forever be thankful and live on.
Ring of Honor's Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event had quite a stacked card. This event featured numerous talents that are all super well-known among the pro wrestling fan base. No doubt, about it, the entire show was a special gift for the fans. Ever since Ring of Honor became ALL ELITE, it became clear that big and exciting plans were in store for the fans, as well as the talent.
