SMU Mustangs celebrating

First year=Title Game. That's the reality for the Southern Methodist University Mustangs in 2024. In their first season as an Atlantic Coast Conference school, the 13th ranked Mustangs will be heading to Charlotte, North Carolina for the ACC Championship Game on December 7.

SMU routed Virginia on Saturday 33-7 to move to 10-1 on the season and 7-0 in ACC. The Mustangs are now on an eight-game winning streak and will be in Charlotte with a playoff spot opportunity.

Kevin Jenning passed for 323 yards with two touchdown and an interception for an offense that racked up 434 of total yards despite having two turnovers. This win in Charlottesville over the Virginia Cavaliers can be credited to the defense for SMU. Despite, the Cavaliers having the football of 31:35 in time of possession, the SMU defense held Virginia to 173 total yards. The Cavaliers could only pass 108 yards and run for 65 yards. That's 3.0 yards per play.

Now the Mustangs get to sit and wait for their opponent for the ACC championship between 8. Miami Hurricanes and 17. Clemson Tigers. Before that, the Mustangs have one more game to play. They will host 5-5 California in the regular season finale.
