The #1 In The 2023 Class Has Committed To Texas

By Alex Al-Kazzaz

Arch Manning has verbally committed to play college football at the University of Texas. The 5-star quarterback has committed to Texas over the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana State, and Clemson. Manning is one of only three quarterbacks to receive a perfect 1.0000 composite score; the other two would be Quinn Ewers and Vince Young.

The #1 overall recruit for 2023 is a member of the Manning family. He is the nephew of Peyton and Eli and the grandson of Archie. Not surprisingly, the Manning family has connections to Ole Miss and Tennessee. Interestingly enough, Texas is to debut in the SEC in 2025. By then, Manning could be the Texas starting quarterback. The Texas program has a plethora of quarterbacks at the moment. No doubt, Manning will face heavy competition. But perhaps playing under head coach Steve Sarkisian will be the best thing for him

The Texas Football program has struggled for a long time. Ever since their loss to Alabama in the national championship game 12 years ago, the program has been mediocre to average at best. After Mack Brown departed in 2013, Charlie Strong took over and things did not work out at all. Under Tom Herman, the program did achieve mild success by winning bowl games in each of Herman's four years as coach.

Texas finished 5-7 last season, including a 40-21 loss to Arkansas on the road, and a loss at home to Kansas. In addition, the team went on a six-game losing streak. However, Sarkisian has already made an impact as far as recruiting goes. So despite a disappointing first season, there's a huge possibility of Sarkisian being able to fully turn the program around and return Texas to its winning ways.
